Schram is a multi-disciplinary artist who focuses on the interplay of memory, of her lived and re-lived experience and the strength of emotions working with sculpture, painting and drawing.
A collage of reflective experiences informs the artworks; beginnings and ends, images, sounds and recollections that resonate and linger, and the feelings that surround each of these returns, repeat and inhabit the work in a multitude of different expressions in different artforms.
The work can be described as robust; the bodily sculptures are small curious bravura pieces, demonstrating both strength, playfulness and vulnerability, a tactile exploration, both in which she is blending diverse textures, colours and materials but representing an interior…
The two-dimensional work is rooted in the movement of Schram in the landscape, being in outdoor space and with freedom in the mind, underpinned by the actual rhythm of walking itself- of movement and of grounding oneself- transposed into mark making. The resulting work is often an abstract rendering of the environment; a preoccupation with the fleeting impressions of colors, shapes and sounds.
The materiality of the works are very expressive and have a physicality in themselves; clay that you mould, charcoal, crayon, pencil and paint and the way they make contact with the surface that can be delicate, rough, smooth, fluid- it is all a sensory process.
The alchemy and determination with which Schram sensitively handles these materials and translates remembered experiences are not depicted as a narrative in her work but as an expression of an emotion that are made into being whether as painting, drawing or sculpture.
She is currently based in Breda, the Netherlands and Caldes de Malavella, Spain.
